MACE 2017 will feature a number of “old school” RPG sessions, enough so that we want to make it a convention feature. The OSR feature tag will be games of the old school variety included First Edition and Second Edition D&D. They will also include old school style games like Dungeon Crawl Classics, Castles & Crusades and more.
What is OSR? The Old School Revival, Old School Renaissance, Old School Revolution, Old School Reformation, or simply OSR, is a movement among players of tabletop role-playing games (especially Dungeons & Dragons) that draws inspiration from the earliest days of tabletop RPGs.

MACE 2017 will be host to a Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Tournament Saturday starting 1 PM until it ends. Open casual play and demos will be available both Friday and Saturday. Bring your X-Wing minis and compete with the best that MACE has to offer. Win prizes! Demos and open play will continue Saturday and Sunday.
The Tournament will be run by representatives from Carolina Krayts in the Triad as well as the GnomeCon in Savannah, Georgia. Prizes will be provided in part by artist and writer Davey Beauchamp!
MACE will be hosting an X-Wing Miniatures tournament! X-Wing is an exciting game of fast-paced ship-to-ship combat. Two players take control of their squad of X-Wings, TIE fighters, and other ships from the Star Wars universe and pit them against each other in thrilling, tactical space battles. Choose your faction and build your squad of daring Rebels, merciless Imperials, or treacherous Scum and Villainy, and pilot your forces to victory!
We will be using the standard FFG tournament rules, so bring your favorite 100 point squad. This will be a relaxed tier event. From Fantasy Flight: tournaments at this level are welcoming to all players, regardless of experience level. Players are encouraged to help each other improve and learn, so long as it does not significantly disrupt the game. The focus is on creating a fun and friendly environment.
There will be a number of standard, 75 minute Swiss rounds based on attendance, followed by a cut and single elimination rounds (again depending on the number of players). The tournament format will use FFG’s basic tournament structure, and the applicable current event documents and FAQ. All tournament documents can be found on FFG’s X-Wing page under support: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/x-wing/

About Star Wars: X-Wing
Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game is a tactical ship-to-ship combat game in which players take control of powerful Rebel X-wings and nimble Imperial TIE fighters, facing them against each other in fast-paced space combat. Featuring stunningly detailed and painted miniatures, the X-Wing Miniatures Game recreates exciting Star Wars space combat throughout its several included scenarios. Select your crew, plan your maneuvers, and complete your mission! Whatever your chosen vessel, the rules of X-Wing facilitate fast and visceral gameplay that puts you in the middle of Star Wars fiercest firefights. Each ship type has its own unique piloting dial, which is used to secretly select a speed and maneuver each turn. After planning maneuvers, each ship`s dial is revealed and executed (starting with the lowest skilled pilot). So whether you rush headlong toward your enemy showering his forward deflectors in laser fire, or dance away from him as you attempt to acquire a targeting lock, you`ll be in total control throughout all the tense dogfighting action. Star Wars: X-Wing features a number of unique missions, and each has its own set of victory conditions; with such a broad selection of missions, only clever and versatile pilots employing a range of tactics will emerge victorious. What`s more, no mission will ever play the same way twice, thanks to a range of customization options, varied maneuvers, and possible combat outcomes. Damage, for example, is determined through dice and applied in the form of a shuffled Damage Deck. Each time your fighter sustains a hit, you`ll draw a card that assigns a special handicap. Was your targeting computer damaged, affecting your ability to acquire a lock on the enemy? Perhaps an ill-timed weapon malfunction will limit your offensive capabilities. Or worse yet, your pilot could be injured, compromising his ability to focus on the life-and-death struggle in which he is engaged… The Star Wars: X-Wing starter set includes everything you need to begin your battles, such as scenarios, cards, and fully assembled and painted ships. What`s more, Star Wars: X-Wing`s quick-to-learn ruleset establishes the foundation for a system that can be expanded with your favorite ships and characters from the Star Wars universe.

MACE 2017 will feature official playtest most of the weekend of a new independent unpublished board game called Arms & Ambition
Epic but fast paced! If you like games like Axis and Allies you’ll like this. Arms and Ambition was designed from the beginning to be a fun to play, strategic operations game that is very open, repeatable, and straightforward. Story elements and buff cards make the world seem alive.
This thing is big: A 1 inch hex map that is 4 feet by 5 feet means there a lots of places to be and ways to get there. A unique unit stacking system means that a lot of stuff can be in one tiny place and be easily seen and managed. Did we mention that it plays with up to 8 players?
And yet it moves quickly: All movement is simultaneous, which may sound chaotic, but really isn’t and just means there is little to no waiting time. Battles are determined by one roll per side so they get resolved quickly. Starting units and intermixed starting positions mean that the game doesn’t take long to get going.
Each playable Family has a unique set of 2 Family Ambitions that grant victory points when achieved. These are challenging, in conflict with other players, but achievable in a single session of gaming. Playing as each Family feels like playing a new scenario.

MACE 2017 will feature official demos of a new unpublished card game called World of Wonders. One of MACE’s oldest supporters, Scott Ilkenhons returns to MACE after a long hiatus from MACE with his new game publishing company King Frog Entertainment.
In World of Wonders, the players are district Mayors in a grand civilization using cards to build city structures that support the construction of World Wonders, thereby gaining glory for their house in order to win. The game uses both sides of the cards, features panoramic card layouts, and allows for a multitude of play styles.
“So simple, but so many decisions to make.” – Tim N.
“Fun, easy game to get in to, and so many ways to play it.” – Dan V.
King Frog Entertainment is a new game company based out of Winston-Salem, NC and is featuring a demo of their soon to be released card game. We hope that you will be among the first to check out the first public reveal, and of course enjoy our game.
