Congratulations! You and a group of other movie directors have been hired by a major film studio on a five-year contract. All you have to do is make one movie a year, simple right? By the end of the contract, only the director with the most of the prestigious Oskie awards will get an extension, so watch out for your competition. Each round you will build a movie using genres, scripts, actors, all while dealing with studio meddling, before releasing your films to market and attending the Oskie ceremonies.

About D&D Adventurers League
The D&D Adventurers League is an ongoing official organized play campaign for Dungeons & Dragons. It uses the fifth edition of the Dungeons & Dragons rules, and features the Forgotten Realms setting. You can play D&D Adventurers League games at any place that features adventures bearing the D&D Adventurers League logo. You can create a character and bring that character to games anywhere D&D Adventurers League is supported.
Most D&D Adventurers League games are public, in-person play events. Typical venues for these events are game and hobby stores, conventions, and public-accessible game day events.
James F. Kelly, otherwise known as the Game Terrain Engineer on Youtube, will be running additional games this weekend. Along with his Charity Game on Friday (10455 – Dungeons & Dragons 5e – One Night at Rikter`s Cemetery, Game with the Crafters Auction Game), he will be running a board game and a miniature game (How diverse of him!!)
Who Goes There?
Who Goes There? is based on the short story (by John W. Campbell) that inspired the movie, The Thing. In this game, six players will take on the role of a scientist at a remote outpost in Antarctica. A discovery has been made… a bad one. An alien life form that can mimic anything it touches. One of the outpost’s dogs was infected, but the scientists managed to destroy the alien before it could continue its invasion. Or did they?
Can the players survive until rescue without being infected? And if one or more are infected, can the humans identify the infected and eliminate them before the entire base is taken over?
Please download and read the instructions to the game before signing up. This will allow us to start the game faster.
This will be a one-off 2v2 game of Frostgrave using ONLY the core rulebook and no expansion rules. Terrain and treasure markers will be provided, but players will need to provide miniatures for their own warband, dice, and any special minis you may need (wardog, zombie, summoned demon, etc.). This will be a 500 gold per player game — please use http://www.battletortoise.com/frostgrave/roster.html and bring a printout to verify your warband.
We will pick teams on the day of the event by rolling randomly. No out of game rolls allowed before the event. Any questions, please email Jim at jktechwriter (at) gmail.com
All Games can be found on OGRe. You must be registered for MACE 2018 to participate. No Badge, No Play.
Sword & Sorcery meets The Office in this fast-paced card game about backstabbing and sucking up to an Evil Overlord!
Working for an Evil Overlord is never the safest of jobs, nor the most prestigious, and certainly not the most lucrative, but there’s still a certain amount of pride in doing so. That’s especially true when the Overlord’s fiendish plan for world domination finally comes to fruition. At that point, the best place to be is at the Overlord’s side as their right-hand man, woman, or ogre. This lofty position over all other Minions is the single goal, the end-point, the focus of every Minion to become the one and only HENCHMAN.
Matt Holmquist returns with the Living MACE campaign contest winner – Emberbright! What is Emberbright. A few years ago, we conducted a contest between some of the best GMs to create a world that MACE can call its own. Matt was the final winner and his world, Emberbright represents a collection of ideas from those in the contest.
Matt and JustUs Productions are continuing the development the setting that will act as our own living campaign setting. That means you can create a character for it at one event and play that character at other JustUs Productions events that host this living campaign. We are planning to run it in at least 3 different systems – Pathfinder, Savage Worlds, and D&D 5e.
Matt will be running his adventures in D&D 5e.
S1-1 Oracle’s Bright Secret
Since the rediscovery of Oracle Isle, Central has become a hive of activity. The Grand Duke of Central has made a bold move to try and bring Humans back into the forefront of the world. He has declared a reward for any human cultural artifacts recovered from the isle. This has generated a swarm of adventures pouring in looking for a way to better their lives and station. Being a savvy diplomat, Duke John Vertagk has also asked the Elven Mageocracy and the Igni Technoarchy to join them in this endeavor.
S1-2 The Heat of Hope`s Endurance
The party has just recovered the Emberbright of Azerus and fallen into a deep oubliette. They must now find their way back to civilization
S1-3 Justice Rises as Hope is Lost
The party finds themselves on a brand new continent after disembarking an Igni merchant ship. They now must follow the pull of the Emberbright they have found to the next one.
Emberbright is a bleak fantasy world where humanity struggles as the subjugated species after a cataclysm of divine proportions.
A millennia ago, humankind nearly destroyed the world – an event later named the Unraveling. The greatest kingdoms lay to waste, and the largest race reduced to nomads. Those that did not devolve into tribal cults in the north, eeked out existence as servants to the Elf Mageocracy or as second rate members of the Ignis Combine. (Igni – goblinoid fire-elemental race). The gods, once protectors of man and their greatest strength, have gone silent. Lorekeepers of the remaining human settlements still espouse that faith will restore humanity to its previous glory. What few baronies managed to survive have started to form alliances. A rudimentary collection of city-states has laid the groundwork for the rise of the next great human kingdom. The balance of power may shift again. The Wizard Lords have enjoyed their time as the most powerful beings, and the Ignis Leaders would not give up their monopoly on trade and steam tech. What of the Icemen to the north… no one knows what agenda their seemingly random raids hold. The great cycle of the heavens nears another completion. What will the next thousand years hold? What part will you play in it?
Garden Dice is a family strategy game that combines dice rolling, tile laying, and set collection. The game board depicts a garden as a 6×6 grid in which seed and vegetable tiles are placed using dice rolls as coordinates. Players take turns using the dice to plant, water, and harvest five different types of vegetables with differing point values, from the lowly squash to the mighty eggplant.
The game’s chaining mechanism allows players to water or harvest multiple tiles using a single action, enabling players to build upon each others’ chains. Players can also use bird and rabbit tiles to eat other players’ seed and veggie tiles, but not without paying a small penalty. Two other special tiles – the sundial and the scarecrow – allow players to modify dice rolls or protect their own tiles.
The Gnome expansion included in Garden Dice can be added to the base game to give players the ability to adjust the dice rolls for purchasing, watering, and harvesting their vegetables, leading to a more strategic experience.
Bonuses increase the values of tiles as they are harvested, and additional points are awarded at the end of the game for collecting sets. The player with the most points when the last tile is taken wins.

Friday 7PM – 10PM
The 2018 North Carolina State Diamonds Championship
This Stronghold game by Mike Fitzgerald is a trick-taking card game in which players collect Diamonds – not cards bearing that suit, mind you, but rather actual “Diamond Crystals”. What makes the game of Diamonds different from other trick-taking card games is that when you cannot follow suit you get a “Suit Action” based on what suit you do play. Suit Actions are also taken by the winner of each trick, as well as at the end of a full Round of play. Whoever has the most points in Diamond Crystals at the end of the game wins! The winner of this tournament will get a trophy, a copy of the game, plus a seat at the final round of the Southeast Regional Championship at CharCon 2019 (as well as a free badge to CharCon 2019)!
Friday 9PM – 12AM
The 2018 North Carolina State Coup Championship
You are head of a family in an Italian city-state, a city run by a weak and corrupt court. You need to manipulate, bluff and bribe your way to power. Your object is to destroy the influence of all the other families, forcing them into exile. Only one family will survive… In Coup, you want to be the last player with influence in the game, with influence being represented by face-down character cards in your playing area. The winner of this tournament will get a trophy, a copy of the game, plus a seat at the final round of the Southeast Regional Championship at CharCon 2019 (as well as a free badge to CharCon 2019)!
Saturday 10AM – 1PM
The 2018 North Carolina State Nevermore Championship
This game from Smirk & Dagger is a casual-style, card-drafting game in which you quickly build your hand each round, collecting cards you want and poisoning your opponent’s hand by passing along cards you think they can’t use. Whoever holds the most of a given suit, gains the power of that suit to attack, heal, acquire Light or Shadow magicks and score victory points. Will you transform all your rivals into ravens – or can they regain their human form in time to score enough victory to win? The winner of this tournament will get a trophy, a copy of the game, plus a seat at the final round of the Southeast Regional Championship at CharCon 2019 (as well as a free badge to CharCon 2019)!
Saturday 12PM – 3PM
The 2018 North Carolina State Wordsy Championship
Wordsy is a streamlined re-implementation of Prolix, a word game from 2010. Each round, players study the 8 letters (always consonants) on the board in real time. The first player to write down a word flips a 30-second timer. That player is now the fastest player, and every other player now has 30 seconds to write down their word. The winner of this tournament will get a trophy, a copy of the game, plus a seat at the final round of the Southeast Regional Championship at CharCon 2019 (as well as a free badge to CharCon 2019)!
Saturday 2PM – 5PM
The 2018 North Carolina State ICECOOL Championship
A flicking game in which each round one of the players takes the role of the Hall Monitor – his aim will be to catch each other penguin and get points for that. The others will try to run through several doors, thus gaining fish (that give them points) on their way. When either the Hall Monitor has caught each other penguin once or any of the others has gone through all 3 doors that have fish on them, the round is over. After each player is the Hall Monitor once, whoever has the most points on their fish cards wins. The winner of this tournament will get a trophy, a copy of the game, plus a seat at the final round of the Southeast Regional Championship at CharCon 2019 (as well as a free badge to CharCon 2019)!
Saturday 4PM – 7PM
The 2018 North Carolina State Pyramid Poker Championship
Each player then takes fifteen blocks and turns the blocks so that only they see what’s on them. They take turns placing the blocks into a two-dimensional pyramid-shaped structure, again seeing only their blocks, then they take turns removing any one block from the pyramid and placing it into one of three poker hands that they’re constructing. Each poker hand is competing against the one opposite it that’s being built by the opponent. Once all the blocks have been removed, the player who wins two or three of the poker hands wins! The winner of this tournament will get a trophy, a copy of the game, plus a seat at the final round of the Southeast Regional Championship at CharCon 2019 (as well as a free badge to CharCon 2019)!
Saturday 7PM – 10PM
The 2018 North Carolina State New York Slice Championship
Each player slices pizzas into portions, giving their opponents first choice, while they take the leftovers. There are a dozen kinds of pizza to work with, from veggie to hawaiian to meat lover’s, and each player decides if they want to eat or keep some of the slices, building the best collection of pizzas possible! The winner of this tournament will get a trophy, a copy of the game, plus a seat at the final round of the Southeast Regional Championship at CharCon 2019 (as well as a free badge to CharCon 2019)!
Saturday 9PM – 12AM
The 2018 North Carolina State Skull King Championship
Brent Beck’s Skull King is a trick-taking game similar to Oh Hell!, Wizard and Spades, with players needing to state how many tricks they think they’ll win each round. Pirates and other special cards add to the strategy. The winner of this tournament will get a trophy, a copy of the game, plus a seat at the final round of the Southeast Regional Championship at CharCon 2019 (as well as a free badge to CharCon 2019)!
Sunday 10AM – 1PM
The 2018 North Carolina State Dimension Championship
Dimension is a fast-paced, innovative puzzle game that takes place in three dimensions with 60 colorful spheres. All of the players play at the same time. Everybody tries to position the spheres on their trays to earn as many points as possible. The task cards indicate how the spheres must be placed to earn points. Complete these tasks while racing against the timer. You get a point for each sphere you use and a bonus token for using all five colors, but you lose two points for each task card you don’t follow correctly. Prove to your opponents that you are the master of multi-dimensional thinking! The winner of this tournament will get a trophy, a copy of the game, plus a seat at the final round of the Southeast Regional Championship at CharCon 2019 (as well as a free badge to CharCon 2019)!
Just Survive The Game is a Card Game from Broken Archer Games.
From the website: “Use teamwork to help everyone stay alive or lookout for yourself and forget your family and friends”
Just Survive is a somewhat abstract and lightly themed game of cards where you play roles in a survival scenario. The disaster is not defined, the situation is not defined, all you know is that you have to be the last person standing. In this game, there are Job cards, Event Cards, Secret Cards and Dead/Skipped cards. Each person gets a Secret card and a Job card. There are a total of 11 Job cards and 15 secrets. These define your role in the game by giving you things you can do – both your Job ability and your Secret ability. These abilities counter things in the game or break rules. Secrets don’t necessarily have to remain secret, it’s totally up to the player.
Play goes from the youngest player onward, reacting to Event cards on each turn. Event cards can be a variety of things. There are 87 total cards in this stack. They range from Bad Day where you snap and pick a character to murder, to Food running low. Secrets and Job abilities can effect these Events. During these Events, sometimes the group must vote, and sometimes those votes can be deadly. One thing to note is that Death in the game does not end the game for the player. The only thing that ends the game for everyone is the SURVIVE card in the events. When that comes up, the last player alive is the winner.
From the website: “You’ve just been locked in a bunker holding out to survive a disaster outside. You and the people you’re with must do whatever it takes to survive, but only one of you will be able to live.”
In conclusion, this is a fun little game. I prefer a little more theme and it is pretty no-frills in terms of production value. When we played, it was with 3 players but we determined that it would play better with more people. It became unclear at times what a Dead person could and could not do, so I think the rules need to be a little clear on that. It has great potential for expansion, however. And I think it would serve well if it had a little more theme.
