mini-mace 2017 UNPUB: CITY State

MACE events traditionally have brilliant game designers and publishers attending for the sole purpose of demoing and play testing their unpublished games.  mini-mace 2017 will be very privileged and honored to have at least one fine designer use use our game day as a testing ground for his ideas.

CITY State

By Andrew Haigh

Never Just Settle

Six tribes of settlers arrive on a small but bountiful paradise island. Two butchers, two millers and two lumberjacks. They separate and decide to occupy six equal areas of island. Over time the tribe’s settlements grow and cities are built with outlying towns. All the time remembering the character traits of the original tribes. We join the story with each tribe having built two adjacent cities, just to the inside of their respective market area (tile) and three outlying towns.

Every day a player sends out their hunter gather to collect resources. Resources are collected without bias. So if a player moves to a Grain area, everyone with access gets to benefit.

Settlements of different sizes are needed to grow the territory covered. Every settlement is either helping to collect resources or manage and administer the settlement. So the bigger the settlement the fewer resources it can collect, however the more roads it can support for expansion.

Unfortunately the hunter gather can only carry so much, so they must return to a market. With all of these resources they can:

  • Hire additional villagers
  • Use villagers and resources to build/upgrade settlements
  • Spend resources to learn new abilities – e.g. stonemason or jeweler
  • Or as may become necessary prepare for combat – attack, defend and train mercenaries

As city states desire to get bigger and to control more territory, grab more resources, unlock new abilities; tribes will get in each other’s way. As a result, there will be squabbles over the ownership of settlements and fights will start.

MACE 2016 UNPUB: Unpublished Games

MACE 2016 will have several brilliant game designers and publishers attending for the sole purpose of demoing and play testing their unpublished games.  We feel very privileged and honored that these fine designers would use MACE as a testing ground for their ideas.  Here are a list of games currently on the schedule that are marked with the UNPUB tag, but we will have more.

The following are just some of the Unpub games on the schedule right now.  We expect to have more as we draw closer to the con.

We Come In Pieces

By John Bailey

We Come In Pieces takes place in the fictional town of Small-Town in the middle of some unnamed region of an unnamed territory or state in Earth’s mid-20th century. Each player is one of the alien masterminds working for the Matriarch of your home planet. Your goal is to use your robot to exert influence over the citizens of Small-Town in order to secretly capture its first wave of Earthlings to bring back to your home planet as pawns to do your bidding. All the while, you will be improving your robot when you can, and thwarting the efforts of the other masterminds. But you must be careful. if the humans catch wind of your true intentions, they will resist, impeding your progress. What’s more, you are in a “friendly” competition with your fellow alien masterminds for taking control of Small-Town, and these collaborators won’t hesitate to find ways to slow you down and get ahead of you. All in good fun, of course.

The Matriarch receives great delight in favoring the underdog in these contests. For this reason, the player in last place, known as the Favored One, will always receive the favor of the Matriarch, receiving temporary special powers. That is, until another mastermind becomes The Favored One…

The alien mastermind who has exerted the most control over the populace, slowed down the other player masterminds, and accomplished side missions while upgrading their robot and maintaining the most Discretion by the end of the 5th day (round) wins the favor of the Matriarch (and the game!)

We Come in Pieces is a light-medium weight competitive game that utilizes area control, resource management, and player interaction. The game is suitable for 2-4 players ages 10 and up and plays in about 1 hour. Playtesters will have the option of having their name recorded as an official playtester for the game.

Pizza World

By Andrew Haigh

Players are master pizza makers looking for the finest ingredients in a market. Each player is given several shopping lists of ingredients to collect. Unfortunately with a limited number of ingredients in the market, getting the ingredients you need may not be easy, especially if another player got there first.

Pizza World is a game about completing as many personal and shared shopping lists as possible, some ‘take that’ elements and remembering where you last saw an ingredient – although they might not be where you thought. Make friends, or not, as you compete for the ingredients you need.
Plays 2-6 for about 30-45 minutes

WARMACHINE players take on the role of warcasters as they lead their titanic forces into battle. Warcasters possess significant martial prowess of their own as well as having hardened warriors and magical spells to bring to bear.
