November 13-15, 2019

THIS IS AN GM CALL FOR MACE 2020.

If you would like to run games or volunteer for MACE 2020, please contact us as soon as you can. Time is running out. Due to COVID 19, space is limited. The Convention is Preregistration Only. Gaming is Preregistration Only. Masks will be required at all tables. No onsite registration will be provided.

ORGANIZED PLAY RPGs: If you want to run D&D 5e Adventurers League (D&D AL), contact  (unless the tell me otherwise).

REGULAR SCHEDULE GAMES: For those that wish to propose scheduled events for MACE 2020, the best way to do that is through OGRe. Go to ogre.justusproductions.com. Log in (Make an account if you don’t have one. If you were a GM for us at any point in time since 2006, you more than likely have an account.). Click Propose Event on the left menu.

If you prefer to email us at , please include as much information about your event as possible. It is sort of a hassle to go back and forth with questions with so many GMs. Include game name and any link that will explain the game and/or provide the description, especially if it is a obscure game. Also include schedule preferences keeping in mind our standard 4 hr. slot schedule (although you are not limited to that schedule).

Three 4-hour sessions or 12 hours of gaming gets you in free, with fewer getting you a discount. See our discount policy on our web site at justusproductions.com for information on the discounts.

MACE 2020: Virtual Games

For MACE 2020 (and perhaps the future) we are providing the option for people to play games virtually on our schedule. The games will be run virtually by the GM and anyone that pays for a virtual ticket can sign up ahead of time to play them.

GMs can make proposals as normal through OGRe. Please note in the proposal notes that the game is Virtual – like THIS IS A VIRTUAL GAME. Everything involved in running the game virtually will be the GM’s responsibility and the GM must provide the specific instructions on how to join that game in the game proposal descriptions.

Players who wish to attend games virtually can either attend MACE and play virtually from the hotel, or play virtually from home after paying for a virtual ticket in registration.

Every virtual game will be allocated to the Virtual Gaming location in OGRe.

MACE 2020 COVID Update

Here is some updated info on MACE. We are still in a state of planning, but with the news from Governor Cooper, we can now offer more people the opportunity to attend. Please take a moment to read. If you have not registered to play, please do so. If you have not signed up to run, please do so. And make your room reservation. We need you to do this so that we have a good idea of number. MACE will be pre-reg (both as an attendee and for games) only this year, so please make your plans as soon as you can. I hope you will be able to attend. i am looking forward to seeing all of you. If you have any questions, please ask.

CHANGES IN RED

AttendanceLimited to 300

All attendees will be pre-registered.   There will still be no walk-up registrations.   The Attendee List includes GMs, Dealers, Players and Staff.

Gaming Registration

Games will be pre-registered for in OGRe.   We may have some Play to Win or Open Tables, but a lot will depend on how many people register, if any games are sent, and what tables we can have open.   To keep away from bunching up and to create the social distance, we will have posters in several locations showing what games are being played in specific rooms.

Dealers

The new room numbers have opened it for more dealers to be allowed in.  I will limit it to 2 rooms of 10 dealers.  But this will give us more room for these guys to show their wares.

Table Sizes and Players

We will use mostly rounds, but will have some 6’ tables in use.    Each table will only accommodate 5 chairs (1 GM and 4 Players).  Some rooms will be for RPGs and some will be for Board Games.    There will be a max of 5 tables per room.

GMs

There may be a limit on the number of GMs we can have as well as more restrictions on the type of games we can run.  We need to make sure that the games being run are games that will fill so that we do not have empty tables.

Game Slots and Time

We are still looking at 2 options for gaming this year.    We have the possibility of starting games on Thursday night.    All games would need to end at midnight to give the hotel crew time to clean each room.  A decision on this will be made soon.   In order to add the Thursday night games, we need enough GMs to fill those and the regular slots.

OPTION 1: 1 slot on Thursday, 3 on Friday, 3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.

OPTION 2: the more traditional, 2 on Friday, 3 On Saturday and 2 on Sunday.

Food

We will not be setting up the Grinning Goblin this year.   There are many restaurants close by and we will have breaks between slots.   I wish we could set it up, but health and safety reasons, we have decided not to this year.

MASKS

Masks will be required this year.   I will see if the hotel as something about its policy on MASKS.  What they say is what we do.

This is still a work in progress and may change as we have more information.

MACE 2020 COVID Plan

MACE will soon be upon us….we hope.    I have been in touch with the Hilton and a plan is being developed.    The official mandate from Governor Cooper is 10 people per room max.    We have 18 rooms available to us for MACE.   Most of these will easily accommodate the 10.  A few, even in normal times, really only held 6-7 comfortably.  So, we are looking at a maximum of 170 total occupants.   This number includes GMs, Players, Staff and Dealers.     We are a long way from the 700+ we normally get.

I have talked to a variety of people over the last few weeks to get some feedback.    This list includes GMs, Attendees, Dealers, Crafters, and Miniature Coordinators.    Below is the direction I am working on.   There will be limitations, but I think we can make it work for those who want to attend.

Attendance – Limited to 170

MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES IN THE CONVENTION SPACE!

All attendees will be pre-registered.   There will be no walk-up registrations.   The Attendee List includes GMs, Dealers, Players and Staff.

Dealers

I plan on having some dealers, but they will be limited.    With only 10 people per room, if 5 of them are dealers, then at any given time only 5 customers can be in the room.   The Dealers Room will be the hardest to fill since I do not want to tell people no, but it may come to that.

Table Sizes and Players

We will use mostly rounds, but will have some 6’ tables in use.    Due to the 10 person per room limit, each table will only accommodate 5 chairs (1 GM and 4 Players).  In the rooms where we can only get 1 table, we can play up to 10 round the table.   Those rooms may be used for Board Games.

GMs

There may be a limit on the number of GMs we can have as well as more restrictions on the type of games we can run.  We need to make sure that the games being run are games that will fill so that we do not have empty tables.

A statement to GMs about gamer consent

We want to thank all the game masters for all their support this year and/or in the past.  We appreciate all you have done and how well the games have been received.   A recent topic has hit the internet since the release of Consent in Gaming book, by Monte Cook Games.  While we do not plan to have “trigger warning” checklist at the table or online, we do want to address this topic.

Going into this,  we do feel this should go without saying but we are going to say it anyway, just in case.  We need the game masters/hosts at MACE to be mindful of their table and who is playing. Remember that we have a variety of gamer personality types and ages. Please gauge the table before you start running. Some material may not be suitable for those playing. The game is for the players and not just you as the game master or host.

In this vein, we recommend, especially games that have story elements to it (RPGs in particular) to address any controversial topics up front and give the players a chance to opt-out if they so choose.  Please be communicative to the players at your table and be sure all are enjoying themselves.  We are all here to have fun!

Thanks again for all your hard work in making MACE the best tabletop convention in the Carolinas and I look forward to seeing you at MACE.

MACE 2019: Official GM call!

MACE 2019
November 8-10, 2019

THIS IS AN GM CALL FOR MACE 2019.

I know this is on the weekend of GenCon an before DragonCon but space is filling up.  If you would like to run games or volunteer for MACE 2019, please contact me at the very least to let me know you have plans to.

Space is limited but we do have the entire hotel this year.  We are hosting a large Warhammer 40K event all weekend, probably a dungeon escape room and more in the works.  We are also planning to host several special event RPG sessions, including Quest Givers all weekend.  We also will be once again hosting MACE CraftCon crafting events throughout the weekend, since we have six YouTube tabletop terrain crafters on the guest list, including the entire Tabletop Crafters Guild.

Many of our regular events are returning. If that has changed, I hope those responsible for coordinating those get to me as soon as possible.

ORGANIZED PLAY RPGs: For Pathfinder Society (PFS) GMs, it will be coordinated by  (unless he tells me otherwise).  If you want to run D&D 5e Adventurers League (D&D AL), contact   (unless the tell me otherwise).

OFFICIAL MACE RPG systems:  We need GMs for are found on our Official campaign page.  These include Emberbright, Adventures in Filbar and Quest Givers.

REGULAR SCHEDULE GAMES: For those that wish to propose scheduled events for MACE 2019, the best way to do that is through OGRe.  Go to ogre.justusproductions.com. Log in (Make an account if you don’t have one. If you were a GM for us at any point in time since 2006, you more than likely have an account.). Click Propose Event on the left menu.

If you prefer to email me, please include as much information about your event as possible.

If you want to volunteer for something like the gaming registration desk, the shifts are 3 hours. Kids program is 2 hour shifts.

If you are interested in helping with our Kids program, please contact   or .  Also contact Jeff if you have any business or money questions, or vendor room questions. Anything gaming schedule or room layout related, ask Ron.

ConCarolinas Game Master Instructions

This post is for anyone that is in some fashion or another, involved in volunteering or running events at a JustUs client event – ConCarolinas.   If you are not involved in running games, volunteering for either game registration or game library or something along those lines, this information does not apply to you.  Much of this information applies to both Organized Play (PFS, D&D AL, SRM) and regular gaming GMs, so please read!

Registering for the con

If you are a GM (and your games are on the schedule) or a volunteer (and you have been a assigned a volunteer schedule), you are registered for the con.  See GM check-in/Badges on how to pick up you badge.

Check your OGRe Schedule

If you have not already, please be sure to check out OGRe for your schedule.  Go to http://ogre.justusproductions.com and log in there.  If you are a GM, you have an account ( either you made it or I made it for you) and it is activated.  Volunteer Schedules will also appear on the OGRe schedule by clicking the My Schedule button.

It would be advisable to print your schedule as well as your player list.  The closer to the convention you can print these, the more accurate they will be as change will happen all the way up to the convention and during.  Use the Download tab to download these PDFs

GM Check-in/Badges

For ConCarolinas, things may be a little different from our MACE events.  Badges may be obtained in multiple ways, depending on role with the convention.  If your role with the con is more than just gaming, then I suggest you follow the instructions provided by the Con Committee to obtain your badge – this includes guests, dealers, and staff.

All GMs must check-in with Gaming Registration as soon as you get in.  You will sign in and pick up your badge at Gaming Registration.  Follow the signs for Gaming Registration.  It’s usually the first thing you see.  We will need to know your name and the fact that you are a GM.  So approaching the table saying “I am a GM and I would like my badge please” is an ideal start to our conversation :-).  And be sure to say that with a smile 🙂

The badges will have your GM schedule on the back.  Changes to your schedule made during the week before the con will not be reflected because I need at least a week to print and ready everything.

Game Registration Tickets

WE NO LONG PRE-PRINT THE TICKETS!  PLEASE PRINT OR DOWNLOAD YOUR OWN!

We use a game pre-registration tickets system.  Players can print out their tickets online.  We no longer pre-print the tickets to pick them up.  These basically represent your reservation for a seat at a particular game you are registered to play.  All players will have tickets as well.

As a GM for a game, you have three requirements…

  •  Do not allow a player sit at your table without a current Convention event badge.  I will be walking through every session in each room doing badge checks.  Please help us be as diligent as possible about this.
  • Always give ticket holding players the priority.  This rule can be overridden by the gaming coordinator or the organized play coordinator.
  •  GMs should allow 5 to 10 minutes for people to show up, however.  If players that registered don’t show up in that allotted time, you are allowed to give the seats to anyone else.  Ticket holding alternates get the priority.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks for running games for us and for all your hard work in that effort.  I look forward to seeing you at our next event.

Last Call for ConCarolinas 2019 GAME MASTERS!

This is the last email I am going to send out for GMs at ConCarolinas 2019.  We still have room for games, especially RPGs.

ORGANIZED PLAY

There will be Pathfinder Society (PFS) as well D&D 5e Adventurers League (D&D AL). Maggie Keeble and Douglas Edwards are handling Pathfinder/Starfinder Society.  Bill Boivin will be handling D&D AL.  Both schedules are up in OGRe now.  We also have Shadowrun Missions games but most of those already have GMs.

NON-ORGANIZED PLAY

For those that wish to propose other general play/scheduled game events for ConCarolinas 2019, the best way to do that is through OGRe. If the current convention setting for OGRe is another con (see in the upper right hand corner), then click Change Con to change over to ConCarolinas 2019.  Preregistration opens April 26, so I would like to have as many games on the schedule before then as possible.

NEW**  ADVENTURES IN FILBAR

If you want to run and are not sure what to run, Adventures in Filbar is an option for those familiar with D&D 5e.  See our post about Adventures in Filbar here (https://www.justusproductions.com/all-justus-events-we-are-seeking-gm-for-adventures-in-filbar-dd-5e/).  You get cool swag to give out to your players, a free adventure and support directly from the writer.  Contact me if you are interested.

PROPOSE GAMES THROUGH OGRE

Go to ogre.justusproductions.com. Log in (Make an account if you don’t have one. If you were a GM for us at any point in time since 2006, you more than likely have an account.). Click Propose Event on the left menu. Three 4-hour sessions or 12 hours of gaming gets you in free.

ALTERNATE OPTIONS

If you prefer to email me, please include as much information about your event as possible. Also include schedule preferences keeping in mind our standard 4 hr slot schedule (although you are not limited to that schedule).

Contact ConCarolinas Con Chair if you have any business or money questions, or vendor room questions. Anything gaming schedule or game room layout related, ask us. Thanks again for all you have done in the past and I hope we can work together again.
