JeffCon 2022: Demo Highlight — Berd

I just learned a new word today! (And of course I have to share this news with EVERYONE!)

Did you know that “Berd” is an ancient word that means fortress or prison?

It’s also the name of a board game that will be demo’ed at JeffCon (and the reason why I know Berd’s definition 😜).

Don’t let the simple look fool you, you got to think strategically to win Berd. You can set up different types of games: abstract strategy game, strategy game with dice, trading game, team game or a combo of these.

Only got ten minutes to play? Berd allows that. Like a longer game? Again Berd. Like stacking things (like me)? Again, Berd!

Michael Mikaelian will be demoing Berd Friday through Sunday during convention hours! Be sure to get over there and try it out! (And maybe give Michael a snack, he doesn’t have any breaks scheduled! 😛 )

Berd

The goal of the game is to collect the most tokens of any color by the end of the game. Playing pieces in the Berd game have ability to attach/detach to each other. That allows players to move a stack of tokens like a single unit and split the structure when needed. Using interlocking blocks players can create towers and a certain type of tower – Berd has unique properties that make this game special.

The design of the game is specially made simple underlying an easy and logical concept of the game. However the Berd is a serious game and players have to think strategically to win. Also, the board without a theme allows to play many different Berd games. The board of the Berd game has a shape of a square castle from top view. In fact the starting/finishing corner squares were designed larger for accommodating four stacks of tokens.

Berd game can be played by two and more players.

The game set includes two different games and over six game variations for each game. Berd game can be setup in few seconds. Duration of any option of the Berd game depends on how many tokens are played. So players can set up a rapid game of 10 minutes or a long game of 90 minutes.

The Berd game for two players may last less than 5 minutes. Berd game can be adjusted for luck and strategy. By employing more tokens in the game it becomes heavier in strategy. Berd game perfectly fits for tournaments because players can accumulate tokens (or points) in series of games with different players.

The interlocking blocks in the Berd game are made of high quality ABS plastic with thick walls, so they can last forever without wearing and breaking. The Berd game is ideal for educating children, especially when using value assigned tokens. The game can also help developing strategic thinking.

Be sure to check out their demos this weekend.

And say Hi to The Dice Hog! (No not your friend who bogarts all your dice…you say hi to them all the time.) The real Dice Hog! From what I understand, he likes visitors and only bites randomly.

JeffCon 2022: Demo Highlight — Twice Alive Games

It’s not every game company that takes a risk and brings TWO zombies to conventions. Fortunately for us, Twice Alive Games keep them caged so we are all safe!

SATURDAY ONLY, Twice Alive Games will doing demos of their amazing games (and some that haven’t been released yet) in the Gallery!

TROSS!: Viking Chess

Capture your opponent’s throne space (or) trap them on their throne space without removing the majority of their pieces from the game. Gameplay is like checkers except that the objective is not to eliminate your opponent’s pieces but instead to capture their throne space or trap them on their throne space. This is a tournament ranked game. The more of your opponent’s pieces left on the board by the end, the higher your rank. To see the ranks, go to twicealivegames.com.

Kado

In Kado, you compete with other florists to complete orders in the cutthroat world of the local flower market. Claim flowers from the vendor’s stalls, but be careful, or you might end up sharing the best flowers with your opponents. Be sure to keep a clean workspace and an efficient work flow to ensure that you are able to complete the most lucrative orders, all while keeping a stock in your reserve so you can quickly get moving on the next orders. Win by collecting the most points. You do this by collecting patterns laid out in an open market style fashion. Once you have that pattern you take the card from the market which is worth point values based on the difficulty of the pattern. Watch out because other people are vying for the same open market of patterns.

Midnight Zombie Sabotage

The zombie apocalypse is upon us! The infection is spreading, and you must stop it… unless, that is, your cynicism, darkness, denial, or overwhelming hunger for fresh brains has overshadowed your will to save humanity. Who can you trust in this game of deception and shifting allegiances? Even those who are silent may be lying to your face. You must summon all your intelligence and intuition to identify friend from foe and turn your enemies against each other to survive. You must fight for survival as you are plunged into the war between Zombies, Survivors, and Maniacs, taking on the roles of up to 14 unique characters with special abilities and innumerable combinations. Only your cunning and quick thinking can lead you to victory. You’ve only got to make it through the night—do you have the brains to get the job done? Midnight Zombie Sabotage is here. —description from the back of the box Midnight Zombie Sabotage is a hidden identity game that is played in a single round, consisting of three phases: NIGHT, DAWN, and DAY. During the DAY phase, players will divulge and decieve before voting to eliminate a player (or multiple players in a tie). MZS supports 3 to 16 players, who will take on the roles of 14 unique characters. You must use your character specific abilities, deception, and collusion to identify the enemy and convince the rest of the party to eliminate the threat while avoiding becoming a target yourself. Party votes to eliminate 1 player. Eliminated player determines which team(s) win if their their victory condition is met.

Describing Movies Badly

Are you naturally bad at describing movies? Don’t know actors names? No problem. Can’t remember the plot. No sweat! Can you describe a movie badly enough where your team can guess the movie but bad enough where the other team has no clue what you’re talking about? This is a funny game where you challenge your friends movie nerdiness by reading a bad description of a movie and they have to guess the movie from your bad description.

Make some time in your schedule on Saturday to swing by and try out some of Twice Alive Games games!
