About Gravity Warfare

War has ensued following an attack on the Mothership and problems have escalated for the occupation of space elements among several Alien Races of nearby constellations. You are the leader of one of the six great races fighting for the central sector of the Cosmos.

You need to transfer all your interstellar fleet to this disputed area before the rest. But you need to be careful, since only one unsuccessful placement on the subspace can break the entire fragile gravitational balance and lead to a devastating anomaly! The tumbling of the ships from the subspace happens in a random way, and therefore one must be very dexterous and attentive. Enemies are also playing a role and are capable of twisting time and space to ruin your plans, strategically placing their interstellar fleet in key locations.

The most nerve-wracking game yet! In Gravity Warfare™ you must choose your challenge cards and use your ability strategically against other players on their turn, and have the dexterity to make it through yours. In the game, you play one of 6 commanders of alien races with a special ability each, whose goals are to either run out of pieces to play (troops), or to make other players lose on their turn.

At the beginning of the game, players randomly choose a player card and choose a color set of pieces. Then, each player is dealt one Guardian card (protective card) and 7 cards from the deck – of which, they must strategically choose 5 to play with. The cards contain challenges or events such as “Spin it!” or “Stack it!” which you may issue to other players, one per turn.

On a turn, the active player rolls the dice which tell the player which piece of their army to play, and where to place it. At the same time, other players now have the opportunity to force that player to play their turn in any way they want so long as they have the respective challenge card. For example, If I have the “spin it!” challenge, I may use it on your turn if I want you to spin the board and play your turn while the board is in movement.

To win in Gravity Warfare™ you must be the first player to run out of pieces. But if you make any piece fall from the platform, you lose!

MACE West 2019 Special Guest: Tonya Woldridge

MACE West 2019 Gaming is proud to welcome Paizo’s Organized Play Coordinator, Tonya Woldridge, to MACE West 2019!

Tonya Woldridge is the Organized Play Manager for Paizo, Inc., overseeing the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild, the Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild, and Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild organized play programs. Working at Paizo meant returning to her roots, as she grew up a few hours away in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and spent 2 years at the nearby University of Puget Sound. “I love the rain, mist, and mountains! If you want a beautiful vacation destination, the Olympic Peninsula is the best.”

A long-time gamer, she started playing RPGs in high school. Over the years, some of her most frequent games played were 2nd Edition AD&D, Earthdawn, Champions, Shadowrun, and D&D 3.0/3.5. She started Pathfinder with the launch of the beta and has stuck with it ever since.  After attending the third PaizoCon UK, she was hooked on organized play and spent several years volunteering for the Pathfinder Society, first as a Venture-Lieutenant in the United Kingdom, then as a Venture-Captain in Canada, before joining the team at Paizo.

Tonya counts herself fortunate that her family enjoys gaming! Her husband, a Master Sergeant (retired) in the United States Air Force, and 2 children are all avid board gamers and role-players. As a military spouse, she traveled the world with her family, spending 14 of the past 18 years living in England, Canada, and Korea. Their US posts included Washington, Texas, Arizona, Colorado and Nevada. While not fluent in foreign languages, she understands Korean, German, French, and several varieties of English.

Outside of work, Tonya enjoys reading books across a variety of genres, with fantasy and history topping the list.  She counts Anne McCaffrey, Sharon Shinn, George R. R. Martin, David Gross, Anya Seton, Antonia Fraser, Alison Weir, and Diana Gabaldon among her favorite authors. She also enjoys researching historical methods of crafting, sewing, brewing, dancing, singing, and cooking, participating in the Society for Creative Anachronism for over 20 years. A love of all things medieval and a fascination with Korean culture and food led to her earning Bachelor of Science degrees in History and Asian Studies from the University of Maryland.

Pay close attention to our MACE West 2019 Pathfinder Society schedule for special events in honor of her attendance.

About It’s a Wrap

Congratulations!  You and a group of other movie directors have been hired by a major film studio on a five-year contract.  All you have to do is make one movie a year, simple right?  By the end of the contract, only the director with the most of the prestigious Oskie awards will get an extension, so watch out for your competition.  Each round you will build a movie using genres, scripts, actors, all while dealing with studio meddling, before releasing your films to market and attending the Oskie ceremonies.

MACE West 2018: Roaring Creek Games

For MACE West 2018, Roaring Creek Games will be attending demoing their new game Sabatu.  See OGRe for their demos. Help us give them a warm MACE West  welcome.  You must be registered for MACE West 2018 to participate.

Roaring Creek Games is a board game publisher/manufacturer based in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains. The company was started in 2013 by Richard and Dawn Savidge with the help of Michael and Elizabeth Smith.  Roaring Creek Games strives to produce games that build player relationships and are suitable for all ages. Roaring Creek Games first release is the beautifully laser engraved Deluxe Edition of Sabatu available in both leather and wood.

About Sabatu

Theme and Victory Conditions: Sabatu is a light strategy game of conquest set in Ancient Civilizations. There are two ways to win a game of Sabatu. You can employ a strategy of speed and be the first player to seize any 3 Capitals and to occupy all 3 of them at the same time. Or you can be the first player to build four Walls around one Capital. The first player to successfully implement either one of these strategies and is able to hold it until the beginning of their next turn is declared Conqueror of the Known World or as Sargon King of Akkad called himself Sarru-kinu, “The Rightful King”.

Gameplay:

  1. A player must begin their turn by drawing one Conquest card and immediately following the instructions on the card.
  2. The player then rolls 2 dice (3 if using all 9 regions), unless otherwise instructed by the Conquest card, or uses Spoils coins to move around the board toward their objectives.
  3. When landing on designated spaces such as “Spoils” or “Armory” draw one tile from the appropriate bag. If landing on a “Destiny” space draw one Destiny card and immediately follow the instructions.
  4. Position your troops, buy Walls, trade, do battle if you wish or build your forces and supplies. It’s up to you.
  5. When you are done pass the dice to the next player, signaling that your turn is done.

Battles: When attempting to occupy the same space already held by another player on the board or when attacking an opponent’s Capital, the 2 Armies must fight a battle. After each player decides which armor or weapons they will use the players each roll one die and the numbers on the Armory tiles are added to the roll of the die. The Army with the highest total amount is victorious. In the event of a tie, the attacker has the option of continuing the attack or retreat. If discretion is the better part of valor and retreat is the desired course of action then the attacker rolls 1 die and moves away from the defender the number of spaces indicated by the die. As long as a Capital has one or more walls any army within the walls has a 1 point advantage when fighting a battle, in addition to any Armory tile the defender may wish to play.

No player is eliminated from the game. If a player’s Armies have all been eliminated from the game, that player begins his/her next turn with a new Army at Home.
