MACE 2019: Quest Givers Schedule

JustUs Productions is hosting a Quest Givers event at MACE 2019.  Quest Givers is a series of adventures available online for ANY Fantasy RPG system, written by renowned terrain crafters and Youtubers, DM Scotty of The DM’s Craft and the TheDMGinfo’s Gareth Q Barrett – both of whom will be at MACE 2019.

Both DM Scotty and DM Gareth will be running their own versions of Quest Givers – one in Index Card RPG system and the other in 7DSystem.  Both these games are auction games where you bid for a seat online and the top six bidders get a seat at these games.  Additionally we have two seasoned game masters running a series of the Quest Givers adventures in very different ways, to show their flexibility as well the inspiration they contain.

First, we have Mark, who will be running 3 Quest Giver adventures in the series in the Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition system.  Meanwhile, his good friend and fellow GM Roger will be running the same series (as well as a fourth in the series) in 4 different systems – D&D 5e, Clockwork: Dominion, Savage Worlds Deluxe System, and Fantasy Flight’s Star Wars.  See the schedule below.

We hope this intrigues the role player in you.  We thank both Scotty and Gareth for their hard work on these adventures and supporting this event by volunteering to run.  You can rest assured there will be some find crafts displayed on these tables as well.

MACE 2019: Quest Givers

JustUs Productions is proud to announce our Quest Givers event in MACE 2019.  Quest Givers is a series of adventures available online for ANY Fantasy RPG system, written by renowned terrain crafters and Youtubers, DM Scotty of The DM’s Craft and the TheDMGinfo’s Gareth Q Barrett – both of whom will be at MACE 2019.

We plan to have multiple tables of this series running all weekend, in D&D 5e and perhaps more.  They will features masterfully crafter terrain and skilled game masters.  You can see the game schedule on OGRe.  Look for games with the tag “QG.”  You must be registered for MACE 2019 to participate.

What is Quest Givers?

Quest Givers is a collaboration between two artists and writers. Creating monthly tabletop roleplaying game adventure modules and tools that work in almost any tabletop role-playing game system.  Their focus is on building educational content around our series of modules and RPG tools to enhance the games people play. Ultimately they want Quest Givers to become a community of creative people creating quality, useful content and tools for the tabletop RPG community at large. Quest Givers releases a new campaign module on the first of each month and releases other products like Quick Quests and RPG Tools and additional content through their mailing list and our web store.

Who is Quest Givers?

Scotty McFarland (DM Scotty)

Scotty has a passion for tabletop terrain. In 2012 he got back into tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons and found that his players and he were not happy with simple grid maps and wanted something more visually appealing. Running through the expensive and hard to play on options he became obsessed with bringing a better experience for his players.

He made a list of criteria. Quick and easy to make, but still visually appealing to game on. Full access to the layouts for players sitting around a table, and cheap materials that did not break the bank. Over several years since then he pioneered 3 distinct systems to game on. His original “2.5D”, “2.5D NEXT”, and the current iteration “DM Scotty’s Tilescapes”. He has hundreds of videos on YouTube at TheDMsCraft.

Gareth Q Barrett (TheDMGinfo)

Inspired by Scotty’s work on “TheDMsCraft” channel, Gareth started his own channel “TheDMGinfo” in 2013. In 2015, he began releasing videos for his first published module “Under the Tavern”. The series was the first full video walkthrough of a dungeon module to appear on YouTube. Sales of the PDF and DVD versions were enormously successful and still continue.

His thesis for his Masters degree in Narrative Film Theory and Practice was on “Universal Narrative Structure” and looked at the narrative structure of role-playing games, computer games and televised sport in relation to film theory.

ConCarolinas 2018: Preview of The Halls of Arden Vul, a mega-dungeon

ConCarolinas 2018 will feature a preview of The Halls of Arden Vul, a megadungeon by Expeditious Retreat Press. Run by the Designer, Richard Barton, he will be running it in old school AD&D first edition.

You’ve been contacted by Calpurnia the Quiet, a well-known mage in the College of Macrina, about a special operation. Calpurnia claims to have discovered the location of the fabled Gemini Blades deep within Arden Vul, the ancient underground imperial city abandoned a millennium ago during the War of the Sortians and Theosophs. As all scholars know, the Gemini Blades were the possessions of the legendary hero-twins Thekla and Taticus, known for slaying a troll in defense of their family. Calpurnia assures you that great riches are to be found in the Twins’ tomb, and in those of neighboring Archontean nobles; all can be yours, save for the Blades themselves, which she intends to present to the Emperor as a gift. Enticed by visions of coin and magic, you’ve agreed to her offer.

Calpurnia has teleported you into one of the few known locations within the vast, empty halls of Arden Vul, and has provided you with both a sketch map of the region and a set of rough guidelines on how to find the Tomb of the Twins. She is ‘fairly certain’ that the Twins’ tomb is one of those set into the south wall of the Drowned Canyon, and ‘absolutely certain’ that it was ‘delved right next to the tomb of Phocius Tricotor’. Finding the right tomb may take some time, as many of the elites of the old empire delved their tombs into the walls of the canyon. Since Arden Vul is filled with dangers, including a dangerous tribe of trolls, she’s given you a token of recall, one that will activate from the location into which you teleported after exactly 8 hours. That means that you’ve got 8 hours to find the tomb, loot the Gemini Blades, and get out with as much loot as you can!

This scenario is designed for 1e AD&D. Pre-Gen characters (6th to 8th level) will be provided. It takes place within a small section of the Halls of Arden Vul, a megadungeon to be published by Expeditious Retreat Press in 2019.

MACE West 2018: Savage Kingdoms, Reforged, with game creator Mike Yow

Mike Yow will be joining us at MACE West 2018 to run his fantasy RPG, Savage Kingdoms.  Hew will be running not only his new Savage Kingdoms, Reforged (recently Kickstarted)  but also his D&D 5th edition version.

Friday 8 pm

Savage Kingdoms: Reforged

The Blood Crown

In the winter-kingdom of Mulovia, life and death are separated by the thinnest of veils and the acquisition of power is only secondary to survival. Noble houses squabble with each other, often openly, while King Vortimir grins darkly from his throne. But rumors now surface that the once-hidden tomb of the First King of Mulovia has been discovered, along with the possible burial-place of his most prized possession – the Blood Crown. “Through water, stone, and iron one must pass” say the gypsy-seers. The Blood Crown uses the ‘Savage Kingdoms: Reforged’ heroic sword-and-sorcery RPG system and its grim and gritty setting, which utilizes by a single d20 roll for all narrative action resolutions. Local Asheville actor and dabbling game designer, Mike Yow, is the game’s author and will serve as Game Master for the event.

Saturday 2 pm

D&D 5e: Savage Kingdoms

Shadows In The Sand

In the deep desert, no one can hear you scream. Zaramahd, the great Eastern empire, is predominated by the Sea of Sand. Here, desert tribes loyal and non-loyal to Emperor Al-Shadar’s vast realm dwell, and worse still, endless dunes and a siroccos plague the expansive wastes separating the great bejeweled cities. It is somewhere in this no-man’s land where you awakne, hearing little more than the trotting of sand-muffled feet and the terrible jangle of chains. In your blurred vision, a masked face glances at you, but you are unsure as to just who – or what – it is. Or how many. Shadows In The Sand uses the Savage Kingdoms grim and gritty setting, but via the D&D 5e rules system. This is a playtest of some of the new races, classes, and other materials that might see publication at some future date. It is designed by Mike Yow, local Asheville actor and author of the ‘Savage Kingdoms: Reforged’ heroic sword-and-sorcery RPG.

Saturday 8 pm

Savage Kingdoms OR D&D 5e

Sea of Ghosts

Just north of Tyrius, great city of the southern-most province of the Lorinthian Empire, an ancient temple has been unearthed. Several local noble families claim this area as ancestral land, but none know for certain. After further excavation and political scheming, a band of heroes are hired to explore the subterranean structure and report on what it is discovered. But mysterious and ancient sorceries may lie in waiting, and what was once an underground quest could soon lead to an epic voyage across the sea. Sea of Ghosts will utilize either the Savage Kingdoms: Reforged heroic sword-and-sorcery RPG rules OR the D&D 5e rules set, depending on majority player vote. Local Asheville actor Mike Yow is the creator and author of the Savage Kingdoms game system and setting (this setting will also be used if the 5e rules are elected).

About Savage Kingdoms

Savage Kingdoms is the brain child of Mike Yow, a long-time RPGer, dabbling game designer, and professional actor. First published in 2014, Savage Kingdoms: Reforged – this current project – is a full-color reimagining of not only the core rulebook, but the entire game line to come. In addition to full interior color and more artwork, the rules system has been tweaked and tightened up a bit, though perhaps not quite enough to warrant the moniker of “2nd Edition”.
