MACE West 2016: Special Guest GM: Mike Yow

Mike Yow will be joining us at MACE West 2016 to run his fantasy RPG, Savage Kingdoms.

About Savage Kingdoms

Savage Kingdoms is a tabletop RPG from the mind of actor and game designer Mike Yow, creator of the StarQuest and Elfstone live-action systems. Inspired by the works of Robert E. Howard, George R.R. Martin, and J.R.R. Tolkien (among others), SK focuses on storytelling and immersive role-play all in a detailed sword-and-sorcery setting nearly thirty years in the making. Still in its Beta phase, SK has been play-tested in home settings, game shoppes, and recently at Dragon*Con in Atlanta. Coming soon in softcover and PDF downloadable formats!

8th Summit Games & Richard Launius at MACE West 2016

8th Summit Games will run (per request) Agents of SMERSH, Till Dawn, and Coven and will actively run Gods of Adventure and Run Fight or Die. Richard Launius (designer of FFG’s Arkham Horror) should be coming with them as well, so he`ll be running prototypes of Saving Time and Defenders of the Last Stand. See OGRe for details.

About 8th Summit Games

8th Summit publishes original board and card games. Since 2012, with our first title “Agents of SMERSH” by 8th Summit President and game designer Jason Maxwell, 8th Summit has received three industry award nominations and worked with several well known designers, including Richard Launius and Wolfgang Kramer. By the end of 2015, 8th Summit will have more than tripled revenues, and will have published more than ten boxed games and expansions.

Run, Fight, or Die!

The undead hordes are back! But this time they’re not miniatures shambling around a modular board – the zombies are coming straight for you! As in most zombie games, you represent a unique character with your own character traits, except in Run, Fight, or Die! you will also have your own individual board with zombies you alone will encounter. Zombies move closer to you every round. You run from location to location, searching for weapons and survivors in a desperate attempt to stay alive. Survivors may bring new skills to help you in your desperate fight for survival, or in some cases, new challenges to overcome. In either case, every survivor provides you victory points. The game ends either when one player finds five survivors and declares the last round, or when a player reaches the town line (and the total Followers in play meets a minimum), or if a player gets bitten and turns. Be careful, some followers may turn against you, while others can slow you down. When it comes right down to it, the choice is simple: Run, Fight, or Die!

Scoring is based on the total points of survivors and remaining health of the players’ characters.

Run, Fight, or Die! is a frantic first person experience for 1 to 4 players (will play up to 6 with the 5/6 player expansion). The game is loaded with goodies, including 4 Action Boards, 5 Character Boards, a Loot Deck, a Location Deck, an Event Deck, a Follower Deck, Mutant Deck, 7 Custom Dice, tokens and beautifully crafted miniatures.

Gods of Adventure

By Richard Launius

In Gods of Adventure players take on the roles of classical Gods who together influence the motivations and emotions of a group of eight fantasy adventurers, slaying creatures and overcoming obstacles. However, unlike many Richard Launius games, Gods of Adventure is not a coop.

The game plays either 3 or 4 players. Every God’s (player) deck is identical except for color and another small but important detail: the spoken words on the cards for each hero (divided by color) are all different, reflecting your temperament based on the God you are playing. Each player will have a unique power associated with your temperament. The four temperaments are associated with Greed, Good Fortune, Aggression, and Deceit.

MACE West 2016 Special Guest GM: Robert H. Hudson

MACE West 2016 is once again privileged to have the venerable and talented Robert H. Hudson.  He will be running Pulp Hero as well as Fantasy Hero.  See OGRe for more details, using Advanced Options until his Game Master Name.

Robert Hudson is a freelance writer whose work for HERO Games, in their Pulp Hero line, has been nominated for the prestigious ENNIE Award twice: Masterminds and Madmen in 2006 and Thrilling Places in 2007. Additionally, he’s written for HERO Games’ house e-magazine, Digital HERO.

A product of the early years of tabletop RPG gaming, he started in 1976 when there was only Dungeons & Dragons and hasn’t stopped since. Mundanely, he’s a reference librarian for a large Alabama-based law firm. He and his wife Mary Ann are married with dog and celebrate their sixteenth anniversary together this year.

About Star Wars: X-Wing

Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game is a tactical ship-to-ship combat game in which players take control of powerful Rebel X-wings and nimble Imperial TIE fighters, facing them against each other in fast-paced space combat. Featuring stunningly detailed and painted miniatures, the X-Wing Miniatures Game recreates exciting Star Wars space combat throughout its several included scenarios. Select your crew, plan your maneuvers, and complete your mission!  Whatever your chosen vessel, the rules of X-Wing facilitate fast and visceral gameplay that puts you in the middle of Star Wars fiercest firefights. Each ship type has its own unique piloting dial, which is used to secretly select a speed and maneuver each turn. After planning maneuvers, each ship`s dial is revealed and executed (starting with the lowest skilled pilot). So whether you rush headlong toward your enemy showering his forward deflectors in laser fire, or dance away from him as you attempt to acquire a targeting lock, you`ll be in total control throughout all the tense dogfighting action.  Star Wars: X-Wing features a number of unique missions, and each has its own set of victory conditions; with such a broad selection of missions, only clever and versatile pilots employing a range of tactics will emerge victorious. What`s more, no mission will ever play the same way twice, thanks to a range of customization options, varied maneuvers, and possible combat outcomes. Damage, for example, is determined through dice and applied in the form of a shuffled Damage Deck. Each time your fighter sustains a hit, you`ll draw a card that assigns a special handicap. Was your targeting computer damaged, affecting your ability to acquire a lock on the enemy? Perhaps an ill-timed weapon malfunction will limit your offensive capabilities. Or worse yet, your pilot could be injured, compromising his ability to focus on the life-and-death struggle in which he is engaged…  The Star Wars: X-Wing starter set includes everything you need to begin your battles, such as scenarios, cards, and fully assembled and painted ships. What`s more, Star Wars: X-Wing`s quick-to-learn ruleset establishes the foundation for a system that can be expanded with your favorite ships and characters from the Star Wars universe.

MACE West 2016 Hull Breach Demos and more

Todd & Lynn Holiman will be returning to MACE West to demo more Hull Breach card game.  This will include a special MACE only scenario.  Possibility joining them is the game designer Daniel Auxier.  He is setting up in Stuyvesant with the NOG guys.

About Hull Breach

Hull Breach is a sci-fi cards-and-dice game featuring epic space combat between ships, firefights between Marine boarding parties, and plenty of clever tactics and galaxy-shaking events. You command of a space station belonging to one of our several in-game factions and fight it out with one or more other Commanders to achieve galactic domination! The object of the game is to protect your Station – your home in space – from other Commanders while trying to capture or destroy theirs.  Be warned – they’re trying to do the same thing to you. It’s a tough galaxy and at the end of the day only one Commander gets to remain standing.

Best of all, while we encourage customization and deck-building, this isn’t one of those “collectible”  card games that will have you tearing through randomized foil packs of cards to find the ones you want. Hull Breach plays right out of the box and you’ll know where you can find every card in the game without having to drop a ton of space-cash on boosters or turn to the secondary market to field a competitive deck.
